Apple TV+ dropped Dark Matter today, and wow, what a way to start the series. From the first scene, you are pulled right into Jason Dessen’s world. He is a physics professor, a devoted husband, a dad, basically living a life most of us would call stable and ordinary. And then it all gets turned upside down.
Jason is abducted and wakes up in a version of reality that looks familiar but is not his own. It is thrilling on a sci-fi level but also emotionally gutting. You feel his confusion, fear, and frustration as he tries to figure out what is real and what is not.
What I loved about the premiere is that it does not just rely on mind-bending concepts. The heart of the story, the people, the family, and the choices that define Jason are all front and center. You care about him and that makes all the sci-fi stakes hit even harder.
It is smart, suspenseful, and makes you think about how fragile life can be and how one decision can completely change everything. If you like sci-fi that makes you feel something while keeping you guessing, Dark Matter starts strong and leaves you wanting more.
