Adult Swim on the Green was definitely one of the more fun things we checked out during San Diego Comic-Con this year. It took over Bayfront Park right outside the convention center, and the best part was that it was completely free and didn’t require a Comic-Con badge, so it was an easy stop even if you weren’t actually attending the convention.
I had a press pass for Adult Swim on the Green, which meant I was able to get in at 11 a.m. each day. I didn’t actually realize that until after 1 p.m. on Thursday, so we definitely missed out on a couple of hours that first day, but all good! It was nice knowing I could come back later and beat some of the crowds. We actually skipped the Rambler on Thursday and came back Saturday morning to ride it, since we knew we could get in earlier.
The whole area was basically an Adult Swim playground with a bunch of interactive installations, games, photo spots, and giveaways inspired by different shows. It felt more like an experience than a traditional brand activation, where you just walk around and look at a few displays.
The biggest attraction was probably the Rick and Morty RAMbler. You entered through this huge 26-foot-tall Rick head and went inside for a carnival-style ride with animation, music, and special effects. We decided to skip it on Thursday since the line was LONG, but coming back Saturday morning worked out perfectly. We were able to ride it twice before leaving to tackle some other activations.
There were also installations for some of Adult Swim’s newer shows, including Common Side Effects, Haha, You Clowns, President Curtis, and My Adventures with Superman. There were games and interactive activities throughout the space, including a mini golf challenge and a slingshot game. There were also plenty of places to stop and take photos, which is pretty much a requirement when you’re at Comic-Con.
I also loved that they had things going on at night, even though I was too pooped to attend. The programming ran from 7–10 p.m. and featured live table reads, Night of New, a cosplay dance party, and DJ sets throughout the weekend. I saw videos, and it gave the whole space a completely different feel once the sun went down.
And of course, there were giveaways. Adult Swim offered exclusive giveaways to the first 700 attendees on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, so there was definitely an incentive to get there early.
Adult Swim on the Green is a fun addition to Comic-Con. They really lean into the weirdness and humor that make their shows so recognizable. It is always worth stopping by.
