“I’ve been waiting my whole life for this,” said my husband as he picked up the Matrix of Leadership.
And he wasn’t exaggerating.
He’s been a Transformers fan for over 40 years, and like so many of us who grew up watching The Transformers: The Movie, the Matrix has always been more than just an artifact. It’s one of the most iconic symbols in the Transformers universe, representing leadership, sacrifice, and hope.
When Hasbro announced a full-size replica that lights up and plays The Touch (which was the cherry on top), it shot to the top of his must-haves list. He preordered it on February 16 and finally had it in his hands on July 16.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen him this excited over a collectible. He even asked me to film him using it, something he’s never asked me to do before. He doesn’t care to be on camera or on social media, so I knew this was a big deal.
Watching him experience it reminded me why I love capturing moments like these. His excitement was genuine. The second the Matrix lit up, he had the biggest smile on his face. For a moment, it felt like I was watching the kid who fell in love with Transformers over 40 years ago.
After all these years, it takes something truly special to bring back that sense of wonder, and this did exactly that.
Some collectibles are just cool, others take you right back to being a kid. This one did that.
