Austin is always busy during SXSW, but this week the city has been especially packed with filmmakers, musicians, creators, brands, and visitors from all over the world. SXSW 2025 was March 7–15, bringing film, television, music, technology, comedy, and plenty of pop-ups and events around downtown Austin.
Film & TV
The Film & TV Festival featured 111 feature films, including 90 world premieres, as well as shorts, TV projects, and XR experiences.
The festival opened with the world premiere of The Studio, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Apple TV+ comedy about the chaos of running a Hollywood movie studio. Other big premieres included Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega; The Astronaut, starring Kate Mara and Laurence Fishburne; and The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck.
Music
Music is another huge part of SXSW, with official showcases taking over venues across Austin. The 2025 Music Festival ran March 10–15, bringing a mix of emerging artists and established performers to stages throughout the city.
There was also plenty happening outside the official showcases, from brand events and parties to smaller performances happening all over downtown.
Talks, Comedy & More
The conference brought together speakers from technology, entertainment, culture, and other industries, with keynotes and panels running throughout the week. Featured speakers included Issa Rae, Meredith Whittaker, John Fogerty, Jay Graber and many others.
SXSW isn’t just about screenings and panels. Comedy shows, parties, pop-ups, and brand activations are everywhere during the festival, which is part of what makes walking around Austin during SXSW so much fun.
Whataburger Museum of Art
Created for Whataburger’s 75th anniversary, it featured fan-created artwork, murals, interactive installations, and other Whataburger-themed experiences.
Next year’s SXSW will take place March 12–18, 2026.
